Dr. Kim Diorio (she/her) is a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) working under the supervision of… With over 25 years of experience in education and mental health, she holds master’s degrees in Counseling from Villanova University and in Integrative Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), as well as a Doctorate in Leadership for Change from Fielding Graduate University. Before becoming a therapist, Kim worked as a school counselor and high school principal in the Palo Alto Unified School District, the first public K–12 district in California to adopt board policy affirming transgender students’ rights. This experience gives her unique insight into supporting adolescents, families, and school communities through complex social, emotional, and identity-related challenges.
Kim specializes in working with LGBTQ+ youth, transgender and gender-expansive clients, neurodivergent individuals, couples, and families. Her therapeutic style is relational, trauma-informed, and solution-focused, with an emphasis on somatic and transpersonal work. Using a holistic, process-oriented lens, she integrates mind, body, and spirit to create collaborative, strengths-based spaces where clients can explore identity, improve relationships, and develop practical strategies to build resilience, connection, and well-being.
She partners with clients to co-create a safe, affirming environment that nurtures growth, self-understanding, and empowered choice. As the parent of two teenagers (ages 14 and 17), including one neurodivergent child, Kim brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work with families. She works closely with caregivers to foster communication, understanding, and supportive home environments. Outside of her clinical work, she is a proud dog mom to her five-year-old Maltipoo, Bodhi.
