Kristian Gambardella, ASW #97766

Kristian Gambardella (he/him) is a queer transgender neurodiverse mental health provider and advocate. In working with youth and families, Kristian takes an individualized and collaborative approach, utilizing a gender and neurodiversity affirming, strengths-based, trauma-informed and social justice framework.

He brings many years of experience working at the intersection of gender diversity, neurodiversity, minority stress and trauma. With a passion for supporting families to strengthen their parent-child relationship, Kristian’s work with youth promotes embodiment, play, gender joy and community connection.

Kristian earned his master’s degree in Social Work from the Silberman School of Social Work, and is a Registered Associate Social Worker supervised by Jill Rees, PhD. While pursuing his master’s degree, Kristian participated in an advanced training program developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network in Child & Adolescent Trauma with an emphasis on early childhood and dyadic treatment models.

He completed his post-masters fellowship at Kaiser Permanente Oakland Child & Family Psychiatry. Kristian continued his work at Kaiser following the fellowship, providing gender support for youth and their families in the East Bay. He developed and co-led programming for gender diverse youth and their families, including a support group for gender diverse elementary school-aged children and a gender affirmative parenting psychoeducation class series.

Kristian is the co-founder of Caterpillar Club — a non-profit organization that provides social and community support for gender diverse youth ages 4-12 and their families in the Bay Area.

Outside of work, Kristian enjoys being active outside, ideally in or near the water with his dog Zapa.
